1. Select seeds
2. Gibberellic acid: This is optional, but can speed up germination. Gibberellic acid is a plant hormone that can stimulate growth. Follow the exact instructions on the product to determine the correct concentration and soaking time.
3 containers: Prepare small pots or seed trays with permeable soil.
Soaking:
* Water bath: Place the sunflower seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours.
* Gibberellic acid solution: If you are using gibberellic acid, dissolve it in water according to the instructions and soak the seeds for the recommended time.
Sowing:
* Filling pots: Fill the prepared pots with soil and moisten them slightly.
* Sowing: Press the seeds into the soil, slightly covering them.
* Location: Place (15°C to 20°C) the pots in a warm and bright place, but not in direct sunlight
Germination:
Because this sunflower is a cross between a conventional and a wild sunflower, the wild forms have different germination times for conservation reasons due to the risk of frost.
* Patience: Germination can take 2 to 8 weeks.
* Watering: Keep the soil moist, but not wet.
Prick out (optional):
* As soon as the seedlings have germinated or have developed their second pair of leaves, repotting into larger containers or planting directly is recommended.
Planting out:
* When no more night frosts are expected, the young plants can be planted out in the open.
